Really Dr. Stone??? Really???

Today I had my first appointment with my OB doctor, Dr. Stone. Dr. Stone is a super sweet, southern guy, who always wears a bow tie and brings a smile to your face. My appointment today wasn't too eventful, (I found out I am STD free! Woohoo! I was really worried about one.) we went over genetic testing and other advice.

Now, the thing that really got me was when Dr. Stone asked, "So how much weight do you think I'm going to let you gain during this prengnacy?" I answered, "35 pounds." "No, more like 20, 25 at the most." REALLY Dr. Stone?? I went on to tell him I have already gained 3 pounds and I'm only at week 8. He assured me that this is ok. But in my head, I'm thinking, hmmmm....only 20 pounds, 25 at the most. That means I have a 17 - 22 pound cushion right now to last me another 32 weeks. His nurse practitioner warned me at my last visit that Dr. Stone is a stickler about weight gain; and then went on to tell me that since my BMI is so low, I could actually gain 40 - 45 pounds. What happened to the 25 - 35 pounds that every book recommends?

Don't get me wrong, I would love to only gain 20 pounds with this pregnancy, but I just don't think it is realistic. I guess maybe I need to start working out daily.
