27 weeks!

Today marks: 27 weeks, 2 days - I am 5 days away from the 3rd trimester

How much weight gained so far (optional): 20-21 pounds....(as I sit on my couch eating Harry & David's Moose Munch at 9am!)

How I'm feeling these days: I feel pretty good! No back pain yet! I do have to use the restroom A LOT during the night, so I'm not getting a lot of sleep. I better get used to it, right?

Exciting News/Milestones: I received a phone call on Thursday that our Nursery furniture has arrived!!! Wes and I have plans to drive to Tampa after Christmas to pick it up! It was a great Christmas present from Trish & Larry! (Now we just need to paint the nursery before then!)

Holiday Plans: Last year Wes worked Christmas Eve & Christmas Day, so I am very excited he has both days off this year. We don't really have big plan for Christmas Eve, except we might go to church and maybe paint the nursery. However, Christmas Day will go something like this:
-Make reindeer & Santa pancakes
-Lie in bed watching Christmas movies
-Make a ham dinner with all the fixings
-Go see the new Sherlock Holmes movie
Sounds nice, right!

According to The Bump, Anderson is experiencing these changes during week 27:

Baby's lungs are going through some major developments these days, which (combined with the opening of previously plugged nostrils) means he's now able to practice inhaling and exhaling. The lack of air in your womb means every "breath" is filled with amniotic fluid, but hey -- it's progress.

Week 25....almost

I know, I know, I have been horrible about updating people on my pregnancy! I promise to be better! I do not have any recent pictures to share, but, hopefully, I can get some from my mom that she took over Thanksgiving.

Quick update on Thanksgiving, then we can get to the good stuff! I'm SO glad we decided to go home last week instead of Christmas, because the car ride home was pretty uncomfortable for me. My growing belly makes my hips go numb when I sleep on my side (or sit too long). This causes me to constantly toss and turn and lose precious time I could be sleeping. We did have a great time while home and enjoyed seeing our families. We were hoping Nikki would have her baby while we were home, but Mason decided he wasn't done baking yet.

Pregnancy Update:

Maternity Clothes? Yes! I think I have mentioned this before, but I LOVE leggins! I think I have 5 pairs now!

Stretch Marks? Still don't have any! :)

Sleep? Could be better! I might be investing in a maternity pillow soon.

Movement? This little guy is very active! Some days more than others, but he is definitely kicking, punching and doing somersaults in my tummy.

Mood Swings? Every now and then. I will be fine and then one little thing happens and I lose it. Poor Wes! However, he is pretty good about it.

Cravings? Everything bad for me. I feel like it is so hard to eat healthy. French fries & Coke anyone?

Gender? All Boy

Labor Signs? Not yet! :)

Belly Button? Still an innie, but might not be for long.

What I Miss? Taking really hot baths, especially now that it is getting cold.

What I’m Looking Forward To?
Getting our nursery furniture!! Going home in January for my baby showers!

What I’m nervous about? Labor! Some times I stop and think, oh yeah, this baby has to get out of me some how.

Weekly Wisdom? Rest! Enjoy time just the two of you before the baby comes!

Baby Frevert's Name Will Be.....

Anderson Frederick Frevert!!!

It took Wes and I forever to decide on the baby's name, but we finally figured it out! It feels great to have this little nugget named! By the way, Anderson means strong and manly.

We also decided how we are going to decorate Anderson's nursery. I don't really like nurseries that have a strong theme. There isn't anything wrong with themed nurseries, it's just not my style. So, of course it took forever to figure out what we wanted to do. There is this amazing site, projectnursery.com that I visit almost daily to get my creative juices flowing. Well, I finally found a room (that I know I will half copy-cat) I LOVE, click here to see pictures. I love the owls, the tree, the little birds, the bright colors, and mix of dark and white furniture. I'm not real crazy about the airplanes, and will probably do something different. I'm also not a big fan of the Spanish numbers, but I love that idea. Maybe I'll find English ones!

It feels great that things are finally coming together. I'm, slowly but surely, starting to order items for the nursery, so it will be complete for Anderson's March arrival.

It's a BOY!

A couple weeks ago when Wes and I were in Kansas City, we found out we are having a boy! We had the sex confirmed last week at our doctor's appointment here in Gainesville. I'm not sure I will know what to do with a boy (my brother is 11.5 years younger than me, so he was starting 1st grade when I left for College), but I'm sure I will learn fast. I feel like things are really starting to fall in place, except we can't agree on a baby name. You may think you have your names picked out, but just wait. When it becomes REAL, you really start second guessing yourself.

My friend, Sara Jaeger, posted these questions to keep everyone updated on her pregnancy and I loved reading them! Therefore, I am going to copy her! :)

19 Weeks!

Maternity Clothes?
Yes, I am definitely wearing maternity clothes! I have discovered I prefer the full panel over the demi.

Stretch Marks?
No, thank goodness! My mom didn't have any, so I hope that gene got passed down to me! :)

Sleep?
Sleep is starting to get uncomfortable. I need to find a good, firm pillow to put in between my legs. If I don't use a pillow, my hips starts to go numb.

Best Moment (or laugh) of the Week:
Getting to see our baby in 3D. Wes and I weren't planning on doing 3D, so it was a nice surprise that our hospital just happened to be testing the new machine out on us! :)

Movement?
Yes! I love it! If I put my hand on my belly, he will start kicking! (However, some times it takes a while.)

Mood Swings?
Not really. I feel like I had bad mood swings in the 1st trimester, but not so much anymore.

Food Cravings?
Not really. I will have cravings every now and then, but it isn't any different than it was before I was pregnant.

Gender?
All BOY!

Labor Signs?
Not yet.

Belly Button In or Out?
I still got an innie!

What I miss?
Being able to eat whatever I want. There are so many things you can't eat while pregnant...like deli meat, soft serve ice cream, soft cheese, etc.

What I’m Looking Forward To:
Decorating the nursery! Wes has the week of Thanksgiving off and we plan on tackling the room then.

Weekly Wisdom?
Don't stress out! It isn't worth it.

Milestones?
People can finally tell I am pregnant! I had a lot of people ask me this past weekend when I am due! :)

Strengths Quest

My boss likes to managed to people's strengths - wonderful approach - so she had me complete a Strengths Quest today. I don't think this is 100% accurate, I don't enjoy written communication, however, it kind of hit the nail on the head.

Of the 34 themes measured, these are my "top five."

Communication

You like to explain, to describe, to host, to speak in public, and to write. This is your Communication theme at work. Ideas are a dry beginning. Events are static. You feel a need to bring them to life, to energize them, to make them exciting and vivid. And so you turn events into stories and practice telling them. You take the dry idea and enliven it with images and examples and metaphors. You believe that most people have a very short attention span. They are bombarded by information, but very little of it survives. You want your information—whether an idea, an event, a product’s features and benefits, a discovery, or a lesson—to survive. You want to divert their attention toward you and then capture it, lock it in. This is what drives your hunt for the perfect phrase. This is what draws you toward dramatic words and powerful word combinations. This is why people like to listen to you. Your word pictures pique their interest, sharpen their world, and inspire them to act.

Restorative

You love to solve problems. Whereas some are dismayed when they encounter yet another breakdown, you can be energized by it. You enjoy the challenge of analyzing the symptoms, identifying what is wrong, and finding the solution. You may prefer practical problems or conceptual ones or personal ones. You may seek out specific kinds of problems that you have met many times before and that you are confident you can fix. Or you may feel the greatest push when faced with complex and unfamiliar problems. Your exact preferences are determined by your other themes and experiences. But what is certain is that you enjoy bringing things back to life. It is a wonderful feeling to identify the undermining factor(s), eradicate them, and restore something to its true glory. Intuitively, you know that without your intervention, this thing—this machine, this technique, this person, this company—might have ceased to function. You fixed it, resuscitated it, rekindled its vitality. Phrasing it the way you might, you saved it.

Empathy

You can sense the emotions of those around you. You can feel what they are feeling as though their feelings are your own. Intuitively, you are able to see the world through their eyes and share their perspective. You do not necessarily agree with each person’s perspective. You do not necessarily feel pity for each person’s predicament—this would be sympathy, not Empathy. You do not necessarily condone the choices each person makes, but you do understand. This instinctive ability to understand is powerful. You hear the unvoiced questions. You anticipate the need. Where others grapple for words, you seem to find the right words and the right tone. You help people find the right phrases to express their feelings—to themselves as well as to others. You help them give voice to their emotional life. For all these reasons other people are drawn to you.

Strategic

The Strategic theme enables you to sort through the clutter and find the best route. It is not a skill that can be taught. It is a distinct way of thinking, a special perspective on the world at large. This perspective allows you to see patterns where others simply see complexity. Mindful of these patterns, you play out alternative scenarios, always asking, “What if this happened? Okay, well what if this happened?” This recurring question helps you see around the next corner. There you can evaluate accurately the potential obstacles. Guided by where you see each path leading, you start to make selections. You discard the paths that lead nowhere. You discard the paths that lead straight into resistance. You discard the paths that lead into a fog of confusion. You cull and make selections until you arrive at the chosen path—your strategy. Armed with your strategy, you strike forward. This is your Strategic theme at work: “What if?”

Individualization

Your Individualization theme leads you to be intrigued by the unique qualities of each person. You are impatient with generalizations or “types” because you don’t want to obscure what is special and distinct about each person. Instead, you focus on the differences between individuals. You instinctively observe each person’s style, each person’s motivation, how each thinks, and how each builds relationships. You hear the one-of-a-kind stories in each person’s life. This theme explains why you pick your friends just the right birthday gift, why you know that one person prefers praise in public and another detests it, and why you tailor your teaching style to accommodate one person’s need to be shown and another’s desire to “figure it out as I go.” Because you are such a keen observer of other people’s strengths, you can draw out the best in each person. This Individualization theme also helps you build productive teams. While some search around for the perfect team “structure” or “process,” you know instinctively that the secret to great teams is casting by individual strengths so that everyone can do a lot of what they do well.

Gator Fever

Fall only means one things....FOOTBALL!! One of the best places to be on a Saturday in Gainesville is The Swamp! Wes and I were lucky to go to the football game this past Saturday and saw a somewhat impressive Gator win. Hey, at least we didn't allow any points! :)

Duke & Daisy showing their Gator spirit! Daisy was actually really interested in her bandana.

Wes & I went to our first tailgate of the season, and it did not disappoint! This tailgate had it all, including a tailor with two flat screen TVs. Wes was in heaven sitting in front of the fan with the other guys, while watching the Georgia vs. South Carolina game.

P.S. - how depressing was that Chiefs' game? Lets hope they look better this weekend! :)

There's a Lime in my Belly....

....Not really, but that is the size of our baby at 12 weeks.

It is crazy to think that my first trimester is almost over. Not a lot has changed since I posted last. I still haven't had any morning sickness, thank goodness! Unfortunately, I still get light headed. I actually almost blacked out in the shower this morning = not good. Wait, there is one change, lately I have been getting really bad headaches. Headaches, please go away! I'm trying not to take any medications during this pregnancy, and you're making it really hard for me.

I did buy some maternity clothes, but they're all pretty big on me right now and look kind of funny. However, my regular jeans aren't cutting it anymore - they are too uncomfortable. So, I have decided that leggins/spandex are my best friends and the greatest things ever invented!

Here is what our baby is up to this week according to babycenter.com:
Our baby's fingers will soon begin to open and close, his toes will curl, his eye muscles will clench, and his mouth will make sucking movements. In fact, if I prod my abdomen, our baby will squirm in response, although I won't be able to feel it. From crown to rump, our baby-to-be is just over two inches long (about the size of a lime) and weighs half an ounce.

Nursery Furniture

Wes and I traveled to Orlando this past Saturday to attend a nursery decorating class at Pottery Barn Kids. (Don't I have a great, supportive husband!!) I would like to say that we took a lot away from this class, but it was totally pointless! The only up side was getting to see all of the PBK furniture in person.

There were two, rather insecure, moms in this class, who asked some interesting questions. For example, "Is it ok for a boy to have white furniture?" She then went on to say that she bought her son white nursery furniture, but her MIL told her that boys should not have white furniture. She wanted to ask PBK if it was ok, so the next time she saw her MIL, she could tell her that PB told her it was fine. This conversation went on for about 15 minutes, and I'm pretty sure everyone in the room felt a little awkward!

Once Wes and I got back to Gainesville, I spent the rest of the day researching nursery furniture. There are so many options out there, and I feel like it is hard to make a decision without seeing the furniture in person. I really LIKED PBK furniture! It is a little pricey, but I would be willing to spend the extra money since Wes and I plan on using this furniture for our next baby. However, their shipping prices are ridiculous! I guess I am a little spoiled, because we have either bought our furniture in town - no shipping fees - or from Overstock where shipping was $2.95 for your entire order. I just think it is crazy to spend $200 - $400 on shipping for two pieces of furniture. (Crib & Changing table - Wes and I plan on finding a nightstand and shelf at a garage sale to refinish and paint a fun color!)

Restoration Hardware Baby & Child has AWESOME baby furniture, and they have flat rate shipping - $95 - for your entire furniture order. However, their cribs are $800 - $1100....I think that is definitely out of our budget! We did go to the Super Target in Orlando to look at their baby furniture, but surprisingly, they only had one crib setup. So, it was hard to get a feel for what they have. I would like to go to Babies R Us to see their selection.

As you can tell, my mind is completely consumed by the baby! This week it is nursery furniture, I'm sure it will be something different next week. I am starting to get really excited, I can't wait to find out if we're having a boy or a girl!!

Week 9

Baby Frevert has graduated from an embryo to a fetus!! Our baby is now about an inch long - the size of a green olive or grape - and is starting to get facial features. Changes that are happening this week include: Our baby's heart finishes dividing into four chambers, and the valves start to form — as do her tiny teeth. The embryonic "tail" is completely gone. Our baby's organs, muscles, and nerves are kicking into gear. Basically, there is a lot going on inside my belly!

I still feel great - thank goodness!! I do get tired every now and then, but it isn't too bad. One change I noticed this week is my mood swings. Anything and everything makes me cry. I went to Bible Study Tuesday night and the video we watched made me cry (which it shouldn't have bought on those emotions at all), I watched The Glades (a show about solving murder cases) last night and cried, Wes wasn't really listening to me the other night, so I cried. I feel like I can't go out in public, because I can't control what will set my tears in motion these days.

On a happier note, Wes and I have plans to go to Sarasota, FL for a little Babymoon! It will be nice to get away from Gainesville for a couple of days and enjoy the beach.

Really Dr. Stone??? Really???

Today I had my first appointment with my OB doctor, Dr. Stone. Dr. Stone is a super sweet, southern guy, who always wears a bow tie and brings a smile to your face. My appointment today wasn't too eventful, (I found out I am STD free! Woohoo! I was really worried about one.) we went over genetic testing and other advice.

Now, the thing that really got me was when Dr. Stone asked, "So how much weight do you think I'm going to let you gain during this prengnacy?" I answered, "35 pounds." "No, more like 20, 25 at the most." REALLY Dr. Stone?? I went on to tell him I have already gained 3 pounds and I'm only at week 8. He assured me that this is ok. But in my head, I'm thinking, hmmmm....only 20 pounds, 25 at the most. That means I have a 17 - 22 pound cushion right now to last me another 32 weeks. His nurse practitioner warned me at my last visit that Dr. Stone is a stickler about weight gain; and then went on to tell me that since my BMI is so low, I could actually gain 40 - 45 pounds. What happened to the 25 - 35 pounds that every book recommends?

Don't get me wrong, I would love to only gain 20 pounds with this pregnancy, but I just don't think it is realistic. I guess maybe I need to start working out daily.

Week 8

Baby F is now the size of a raspberry!

Not much has changed this week, except my pants are starting to get a little tight! I'm a little nervous about how big I will end up getting, but I'm not going to worry about it. I am eating healthy and working out, which is all I can control!

Wes took a picture of me today, and said, "Hunnie, you have a belly!" Thanks, babe! I appreciate it!

Week 7

Our baby is the size of a blueberry!

This week I have made a conscious effort to workout. I actually went running for the first time tonight since being pregnant. I only went 2 miles, and I'm sure my time wasn't anything to brag about, but it felt great to get out there. I think staying healthy (and gaining a healthy amount of weight) is a concern for all pregnant women. There are so many benefits to working out while pregnant, which is why I'm going to try very hard to remain active throughout pregnancy.

We're Pregnant!

The whole concept of being pregnant hasn't totally set in yet. (Probably b/c the news is still relatively new, and I am only 6 weeks along.) Since there was some confusion with my estimated due date (EDD), the doctor wanted me to come in for a sonogram this past Friday. This may sound bad, but I was extremely happy there was confusion with EDD, or else we would have had to wait until week 13 to see our little nugget. It was amazing to see our TINY baby (currently measuring at 5.4mm) on the screen, and the pulsing light coming from his/her tiny body indicating its heartbeat. I can't wait until our next sonogram to see how much the baby has grown!

Luckily, I haven't had any morning sickness yet! Now, I know since I am only six weeks pregnant there is still a high chance I might start having symptoms in the next couple of weeks. Crossing my fingers that doesn't happen!! The only side effect I have noticed thus far is, I get light headed very easily. Wes thinks I am having this problem, because I am not drinking enough water. I am going to have to make a conscious effort to drink more water....I'm just not a person that typically consume a lot of fluids.

What happens at 6 weeks:

Right now, our baby is a quarter of an inch long, about the size of a lentil bean. His/her nose, mouth and ears are beginning to take shape! His/her intestines are developing, and the bud of tissue that will give rise to his lungs has appeared. His/her pituitary gland is forming, as are the rest of his brain, muscles and bones.

New Job, New Opportunities

Today is the last Monday I will ever work for the UF Alumni Association. It has been a fun ride, and I know I am going to miss many aspects of this place (mostly football tickets). However, I am so excited to start my new job - Coordinator of Alumni Affairs for the College of Pharmcy - next Monday.

My new position will keep me on my toes and, hopefully, teach me many things about fundraising and event planning. The events I planned for the UFAA were all very similar, so once I got one down, it wasn't too hard to plan the others. My new position will offer me a lot of variety. I'll be planning everything from board meetings, to reunions, to golf tournaments, etc. I have never organized a board meeting or golf tournament before, so I am eager to learn and grow. Another perk is that the COP is located right next to the hospital, so I'm hoping Wes and I will able to eat lunch together once in a while.

Duke & Daisy go to the BEACH!!

Yesterday Wes and I took Duke & Daisy to St. Augustine Beach. We weren't sure how they would react to the water, but they both LOVED it!! It was fun to watch Daisy & Duke run full speed into the water, jumping over the waves like they have been doing it all their lives. The first time a wave went over their heads, I was little worried to how they would react, but it didn't phase them at all!

Here are some pictures from our trip:

Taking a little break from getting submerged by waves!

Overall, it was a really great day, but I don't know how often we are going to take the puppies to the beach. The bottom line is, it is A LOT of work!!! Not to mention that we probably have 5 gallons of sand in our car now. I'm thinking it might be a 1-2 times per year event. Maybe we can find a dog friendly pool in Gainesville! :)

My head is exploding....

Wes & I have done a lot to our house since we moved in last year, such as.....

Painted our bedroom
Bought a matching a bedroom set - our first one since we have been married
Bought a new kitchen table, couch, desk/book shelves, 2 area rugs & bar stools
Finally framed our big wedding picture...it only took us 4 years.

But we still have a lot left to do. This is what I hope we can do in the next 6 months....

Paint our dining room & guest bathroom
Get a buffet, new media center and chair for the desk
Hang curtains
Refinish the dresser in our guest bedroom
Put up black splash in kitchen

The only problem with this little to do list is, I like too many styles and don't know what direction to go in. I'm worried that I may pick things that are all over the place and people are going to say to themselves, "what was she thinking?" Of course, there are other problems like money and time, or else this to do list would already be accomplished.

I am almost done with our bedroom - I just need to hang curtains and find one more piece to go above Wes' dresser. Once I have that done, I will post pictures.

Dentist

Tomorrow I get my wisdom teeth pulled.

For the next 3-4 days my diet will will consist of applesauce, pudding, yogurt, ice cream and V8 juice.

I'm happy Wes is on an easy rotation and will be able to take care of me!

Welcome to Miami....

Last weekend my sorority sister, Heather, came to visit Wes & I for Memorial Day weekend! To say we had fun would be an understatement!

We traveled to a lot of cities while Heather was in town, but the highlight of the trip was MIAMI!! It was the first time to Miami for each of us, and it did not disappoint! Our timing might have been a little off, or just right, depending on who you are. The Sizzle Convention was going on in downtown Miami. If you don't know what the Sizzle Convention is - which I'm assuming/hoping most of you don't - go here to find out: http://www.sizzlemiami.com/

We started our visit with a trip to SOUTH BEACH!! All the hype about beautiful people was a let down. I will say this though, Florida girls are very comfortable with their bodies, even here in Gainesville. I feel like it is starting to rub off on me. Don't get me wrong, I don't want to pack on any extra pounds or anything, but I have realized I don't need to be a size zero to appreciate my body.

Real men wear these shorts to the beach:

Side Note - South Beach probably isn't the place to take small children. There were multiple guys wearing man-thongs and girls walking around topless.

Wes, me, Heather & Frank on the beach! The water was amazing! Perfect temperature and pretty clear. Overall, I was pretty impressed with South Beach and would like to go back!

I'll end with a couple of picture of us out on the town!

It's been a while...

since my last post. A lot has change since I last posted....we have adopted another dog, Daisy - a Soft Coat Wheaten Terrier, purchased a SUV and have taken a few trips.

More updates to come!
